What is Maxi Taxi?

A maxi taxi is a shared minibus service in Trinidad and Tobago that operates on fixed routes, identifiable by color-coded bands indicating their service area.

Maxi taxis are the primary form of public transportation in Trinidad and Tobago. They are privately owned minibuses that follow set routes and are identified by colored bands: red for east-west, green for south, yellow for City Gate area, brown for Tobago, and black for Princes Town/San Fernando routes. Unlike traditional taxis, maxi taxis carry multiple passengers along their route, picking up and dropping off at designated or informal stops. Fares are standardized and significantly cheaper than private taxis. The system is integral to daily commuting for thousands of Trinidadians.
